Other slings are similar in theory, however, there are some distinct differences that buyers much prefer. When parents can pick, they always choose Over the Shoulder Baby Holder over others. Speaking conservatively, we outsell the other sling manufacturers five to one!

Our sling is wider making a deeper pouch for bigger babies.

We have three sizes to comfortably fit any size parent that all sell for the same price. Within each size there is a larger range of adjustment so ideally mom and dad can wear the same size sling. The OTSBH has a patented third ring sewn into the end of the adjusting tail to prevent it from slipping through the rings if worn incorrectly.

OTSBH has two times the padding on the parent’s shoulder, and around the baby’s head and legs. It’s more expensive to manufacture, but the quality shows.

Our batting is paneled or sewn down; it cannot slip inside the seam into the adjusting portion making it impossible to adjust. Sewing the batting down also prevents the batting from bunching up and twisting while wearing or during washing.

Our batting is flame-retardant and hypo-allergenic. This is not an added chemical that will wash out. Other slings have a resin added that makes it easier to cut and sew, but it’s highly flammable and allergenic. Not having our batting treated with this resin is also much softer to the touch and does not ‘mat’ down.

We have a cord that holds the side rails together over the shoulder pillow. This doubles our already plush padding and prevents the sides from falling down toward mom’s elbows or pressing into her neck. This keeps the whole sling in better proportion for the wearer.

Our fabrics are cool breathable non allergenic 100% cotton or mostly cotton-blends. Our designer fabrics fit fashions. We typically stock 2 to 3 dozen different styles at one time so mom can look good while she holds her baby close.

Each sling comes professionally packaged with color photos and written instructions. We have a 20 minute instructional video available which features five different babies ages newborn through 3 years old in a variety of positions from sleeping, nursing, sitting up, facing in, looking out, hip straddle and piggy back.

Our slings are professionally sewn on industrial sewing machines by professional seamstresses, so each and everyone come out perfectly even, consistent, and high quality. They are not sewn over seas unsupervised on a ‘hobby machine’.

We have a network of natural childbirth educators and lactation consultants (just to name a few), who continually supply feedback and we respond, making changes immediately because we’re made in the U.S.A.

SUPPLYING THE DEMAND We keep an inventory of over 3,000 slings on hand and an inventory of approximately 10,000 yards of fabric so that every effort is made to get your order out immediately. We generally ship the day after we receive your order by fax, phone, post office or e-mail. We deal with dozens of large accounts so we are geared up to support them in a way that does not frustrate their customers. We always have 20 to 30 different fabrics on hand. About half of these have continuity through the years and the others change with the fashions and seasons.
